Preproduction

Once we’ve established an initial connection, we will have a quick phone call to discuss more details about your project. During that time we will establish budget, project scope, deliverables and our approach to your film. If everything aligns and we are a good fit for you we’ll move into the proposal and contractual stage of the project. We are accustomed to working with and delivering for a variety of budgets, however, any and all transparency is greatly appreciated so we can tailor a proposal that reflects how we can best serve you.

Before any cinematography can begin we will have several more follow-up communications about scheduling the shooting day and what to expect from us based on your wants, needs and budgetary constraints. Most productions require a signed contract and deposit to move forward. Then it’s time to move to into the production phase of the project.

Production

Flexibility is the name of this game. Early mornings or late nights, we’ll do what’s needed to get the job done right and with transportation at our fingertips we will always come to you.

Once we’ve determined how many shooting days are required during the pre-production process, we will collaborate with you in scheduling an efficient day on location. Depending on your post-production needs we can set up and plan for a full day of interviews, a full day of shooting footage or a combination of the two. We can also develop a storyboarded approached where every shot is planned out in detail ahead of time. While this requires more upfront work and cost in the pre-production phase, it does make for a well-oiled machine on shooting days.

With almost 15 years of experience shooting on location under a variety of circumstances and turn-around times, we take great pride in delivering high-quality cinematic imagery for your film.

Postproduction

That’s a wrap!

Following our successful shooting days on location the first item you’ll receive from us would most likely be interview transcripts. If the budget allows for it, a writer will comb through what could be hours of text isolating quotes that best illustrate the message to be conveyed through your film. While this part of the process is certainly the least glamorous, it does set the stage for what’s to come and serves as the backbone of your film. There may be one, two or three rounds of narrative development before matching the written quotes with the physical interviews.

While viewing the first visual narrative cut don’t forget - great things take time. At this point you’ll hear your story for the first time and let us know if we’re on the right track. As we delete and shuffle quotes around, we’ll tighten up the narrative pacing out quotes for best delivery while also cleaning up dialogue stumbles. Once you’re happy with the story we’ll call it narrative lock and proceed to adding an underscore, any necessary graphics and all of the great captures from shoot day. After your review we can make any necessary tweaks until you’re happy with the “rough cut.”

Last but not least, it’s time to deliver. Once the film has been approved by all parties (there can be many stakeholders), we’ll clean up any last dialogue bits and sound levels, add sound FX if applicable and color balance all footage on the timeline. We’ll generally hand off a 1080p • H.264 • .mp4 YouTube | Vimeo | Instagram ready file, but can accommodate for a range of export sizes, frame rates and codecs.

If that all sounds like a lot, rest assured, it is! We’re here to walk your through the entire process and get you what you need. If you have any questions please get in touch so we can discuss more.
